Board Minutes – 7/12/21
Attendees: Jay Binette, Carlo Ferreira, JP Grasso, Bridget Green-Salmon, Mark Janick, Melissa Janick, Melissa Maltese, Brian Claffey, Mark Mona, Mike Oney, Kristine Vincent, Steve Woronecki
Meeting started at 7:00
· All Stars
o 11U baseball made it to Semi-Finals. Volunteers were very helpful and needed in order to have games to be played. Had a lot of positive comments regarding the field. Softball has a game tomorrow at Reed. Lots of continued help from volunteers. Juniors are district champions and will play in Sectionals next Monday. Games to be played in Southington on Monday and Tuesday.
· Summer Ball
o We have received some AA players from East Windsor for summer ball. 2 AA, 1 AAA, and 1 Majors team. Enough registrants were received for softball, but not enough interest from other towns. Possible to get summer clinics for the softball players to keep them engaged and playing softball.
o Can the league look into having a Wiffle Ball program in the summer to keep kids playing and having fun. Can we look into doing a program for next summer? Will need support from Board Members to create and run the program. We will need to revisit going forward.
· Softball Scholarship
o 4 players are normally picked for the softball scholarship. Mr. Janick is looking between 2 pitching coaches. Recommendations come from the coaches. Mr. Janick will talk with the parents concerning the expectations for receiving the scholarship. Megan Kisselback has been used the last couple of years. Mr. Mona will ask to see if he can get a former college player to coach the pitchers.
o Funds for the scholarship come from the league funds. 2020 spending was $500. 2019 spending was $1,400. 2018 spending was $1,600.
o Ms. Maltese has been in conversation with the Middle School coach to see if they can get players from the Middle School team to entertain playing little league as well as playing on the Middle School team.
o Board approved spending a maximum of $900 for the scholarship this year.
· Fall Ball
o Registration should be opening in August. Juniors will have their organizational meeting August 7 at Vets. Normally starts the first week of September. A list of eligible players will be needed for Mr. Woronecki to contact those players to see if they are interested in playing.
o Cost for Juniors will be $175. Majors and the farm league will be $100.
